international clients to deliver imaginative solutions that
have maximum real-world impact. CRiBE successes
include:
Research
- Funded by the Carbon Trust, CRiBE is providing free
support aimed at improving environmental management of
buildings and targeted at businesses and public sector
organisations.
- In close collaboration with Swansea City Council, Gwalia
Housing Association and CORUS plc, CRiBE has designed a
"Zero Energy" housing system that is currently being used to
design/develop 12 houses.
- With Toshiba-Carrier UK Ltd, BRE and UK National Grid
plc, CRiBE is looking at how to reduce energy consumption in
office air-conditioning systems. The results will feed into
UK and EU legislation.
- In partnership with CLAW (the Consortium of Local
Authorities in Wales), CRiBE has created a Forum for
research into and promotion of sustainable development
within the built environment in Wales.
Consultancy
- CRiBE has provided Neath & Port Talbot Borough
Council with specialist advice and a design strategy for the
Baglan Eco-Factory development. The result has been an
award-winning low-energy factory.
- Architects Short & Associates have benefited from
CRiBE's specialist advice on natural ventilation and
internal air-flow design, e.g. for the Contact Theatre
project at Manchester University.
- With TR Hamzah & Yeang, CRiBE designed the naturally
ventilated UMNO office for the hot humid climate of Penang,
Malaysia.
- In collaboration with PSD Ltd and IGER, CRiBE is helping
international and national stadia to understand the impact
of stadium design on turf pitches, benefiting both the
design process and turf management practices.
- As part of a Cardiff Community Housing Association home
demolition/refurbishment project, CRiBE has provided a waste
management plan aimed at reducing the environmental impact
and financial cost of waste generation.
