Fabric & Solar Loads

In order to better understand the significance of the monitored energy performance of the different systems studied, thermal modeling of the fabric and solar loads served by the system is being undertaken based on building surveys and actual metrological data collected over the monitoring period at each site.

The modeled fabric and solar loads will on their own provide an interesting insight to the levels of heating cooling loads encountered in various types of UK offices and when compared to industry guidance better understanding the relationship between 'actual' and 'design' loads.

However, resulting modeled heating and cooling load profiles will also be used in combination with the measured energy data to holistically assess the energy efficiency of each system in its entirety, accounting for it's energy use and the levels of heating and cooling provided.  This method accounts for the differing levels of services provided by different system types and different loads encountered in different buildings, thereby making legitimate comparison of the relative performance of different system and building types.

This modeling and analysis of all our monitoring sites is currently underway and we look forward to sharing the findings as soon as they are available.
